A flattering offer is still an offer.

An unexpected festival invitation or marketing opportunity can feel like a breakthrough. The Society of Authors has warned about approaches that trade on that hope. Before replying, find the organisation independently and check the sender through its official contact details. A convincing email is a starting point for a check, not a reason to pay.

What KDP needs to know about AI.

Using AI to polish your own writing is different from publishing words or artwork it created. KDP makes that distinction, including for cover images. Substantial editing does not automatically turn generated content into assisted content. Before your next upload, check how each part of the book was made and answer the disclosure questions accurately.

Could you move your book tomorrow?

If a supplier stopped trading or a platform changed its terms, could you access your files, accounts and readers? That question is worth asking before a problem forces it. Check where the master files live, whose name is on the accounts and how royalties reach you. Good publishing support should leave you able to make the next decision.
USE THE AUTHOR OWNERSHIP CHECKLIST

Your next reader may be in the room.

Book discovery also happens across a table, in a library or at a local event. Start with the people your book is for and one place they already gather. Before booking, work out the cost, the stock you need and how interested readers can stay in touch. A useful conversation can be the beginning of a lasting readership.
READ THE FULL SEPTEMBER EDITION

Give your book fifteen minutes.

Open your book’s product page and preview it as a reader would. Choose one improvement:

  1. Check the promise. Does the description make it clear who the book is for and what they will get?
  2. Check the reading experience. Open the ebook sample. Try the contents links and look for awkward formatting.
  3. Check the next step. Can an interested reader find your author website or hear about your next book?

Write down what you will change and when. One finished improvement is more useful than a long list of good intentions.
