Protect the book before buying production.

The manuscript, publishing route and ownership structure affect every later decision. Resolve them first and editing, design, metadata, printing and marketing can all work towards the same outcome.
Each guide gives you a practical way to assess the position yourself. The Manuscript Review goes further by applying the questions to your manuscript and returning a written priority plan.
What the review includes

Give your book fifteen minutes.

Open your book’s product page and preview it as a reader would. Choose one improvement:

  1. Check the promise. Does the description make it clear who the book is for and what they will get?
  2. Check the reading experience. Open the ebook sample. Try the contents links and look for awkward formatting.
  3. Check the next step. Can an interested reader find your author website or hear about your next book?

Write down what you will change and when. One finished improvement is more useful than a long list of good intentions.

The Society of Authors has warned about scam emails impersonating the organisation or offering marketing and festival opportunities. Its August alert remains a useful check when an unexpected invitation arrives. Find the organisation independently and contact it through its official website before replying or paying. The Society says its own emails use its official domain. A convincing message does not establish that an offer is genuine. If someone asks for money, pause and verify both the sender and the service being offered.

What KDP needs to know about AI.

KDP requires disclosure of AI-generated text, images and translations when publishing a new book or editing and republishing an existing one. That includes cover and interior artwork. Editing generated material afterwards does not change KDP’s classification. Using AI to refine writing or images you created yourself is treated as AI-assisted and does not require that disclosure. Before your next upload, check how each part of the book was made and answer the questions accurately. Authors remain responsible for meeting KDP’s content guidelines in either case.

If a supplier stopped trading or a platform changed its terms, could you access your files, accounts and readers? That question is worth asking before a problem forces it. Check where the master files live, whose name is on the accounts and how royalties reach you. Good publishing support should leave you able to make the next decision.
