AI USE, EXPLAINED

How Casover works with AI.

AI reads and analyses the manuscript. Steve Castledine directs the work, assesses the findings, decides what reaches you and gives the report its final check. Here is what that includes and where its limits lie.
AI is part of the process, not the service. You commission the agreed editorial assessment, launch material or market-development reports and recommendations.
No one prompt suits every book.
The prompts behind each service have been written, tested on real manuscripts and rewritten over more than three years, and Steve adapts them to each book. They keep changing as publishing rules, evidence and AI tools change.
The reading and the analysis

What the AI does.

01

Reads the complete manuscript

The complete supplied manuscript is analysed, not just a sample. Send an editable Word file or Google Doc. PDFs in particular, and scans of any kind, can introduce text errors that the analysis then reads as yours.
02

Supports findings with passages

Specific findings include locations and quotations so you can examine the passages concerned.
03

Checks the book against itself

Looks for continuity, chronology, contradictions, names, places and repetition across the manuscript.
04

Identifies recurring patterns

Highlights recurring sentence, punctuation and dialogue issues where relevant. There is no fixed quota of findings, and this is not proofreading.
05

Distinguishes findings from judgement

The report separates observations about the text from judgements about matters such as pacing, voice and the ending.
THE LIMITS

What this review does not provide.

No cover-to-cover human read

AI does the manuscript reading. Steve reads and assesses the reports, rather than reading your book cover to cover.

Findings can be wrong

Steve assesses whether findings are coherent, supported and consistent. This is not a separate check of every finding against the original passage. AI can miss or misread details, which is one reason you keep the final say.

Analysis is not a reader’s experience

Views on voice, character and reader response come from the analysis. They are not a human reader’s direct experience of the book.

Your intent matters

You retain ownership and creative control. Accept, adapt or decline feedback, especially where it conflicts with a deliberate choice.

No copy-editing or proofreading

Manuscript Review identifies recurring issues and revision priorities. It does not correct every error or provide copy-editing, proofreading, full fact-checking or legal review.
The human in the loop

What Steve does.

—
Sets the brief using your genre, readers, synopsis and stated intentions
—
Reads and assesses the reports before delivery
—
Questions subjective judgements and unsupported claims
—
Removes findings that lack adequate support in the report
—
Gives the report its final check and answers your questions about it
This is not a recent leap into AI. Steve has been building and refining these prompts, and reviewing authors’ manuscripts with them, for more than three years. You receive the findings and revision priorities that survived his judgement, with his name on the report.
Before print

Every book benefits from one more reader.

After revision, arrange a separate proofread of the final pages before publication. A fresh reader can spot errors that earlier reviews missed.
Choose suitable editorial or specialist help for your book. AI analysis does not replace every kind of professional review.
Yours to make your own

AI-assisted drafting within the agreed scope.

Launch and market-development work may use AI to draft agreed material, such as an Amazon product description. Casover tells you which material is AI-drafted so you can review and approve it. You control your accounts and make the changes yourself. Check the current retailer disclosure rules before publication.
A WORKING EXAMPLE

Did AI build this website?

AI helped develop this website’s structure, wording and implementation. Casover supplied the publishing knowledge, set its purpose, reviewed the work and made the final decisions.
Why we tell you this

Choose the kind of help your book needs.

If you want a human editor to read your manuscript cover to cover, this service is not a substitute, and we will say so if you ask. Nothing is charged until you have accepted a written scope. No one can guarantee sales or rankings, and we do not try.
Draft to book, author controlled.
Practical, evidence-led support for complete manuscripts, book launches and already-published books. You keep control of the rights, accounts, files, readership and royalties.
